A typical American ladder is this so called tillered aerial, or simply a tiller in use by the Philadelphia Fire Department. Apart from the main driver, this ladder has also a second driver who sits in his cabin on the back. He is steering the rear axle. Although this is a very long vehicle, it is especially designed to steer it through the narrow streets of Philadelphia due to its steerable rear axle. Ladder 19 is based in the south of the city and is built in 1993 by LTI on a Simon-Duplex chassis. The ladder is mid mounted and can reach 100ft (30,5m).
